The Board of Assessment Review (BAR) is a five member board whose members are appointed by the Town Board.
The BAR acts independent of the Town Board and the Assessor's Department and is empowered to make decisions on their own regarding assessed property values.
When a resident does not agree with their assessed value, they may file a grievance to appear before the BAR and have an independent determination made of their assessed value.
If the resident disagrees with the BAR, they may choose to go to small claims court.
